Adam Jones drove in two runs – including a go-ahead RBI double in the sixth - to help Jake Arrieta win his major-league debut as the Baltimore Orioles posted a 4-3 win over the New York Yankees Thursday.
Scott Moore homered and Ty Wigginton added an RBI single for the Orioles, who snapped a 10-game losing streak to New York.
With the game tied at 3-3, Luke Scott hit a one-out triple off A.J. Burnett (6-4) and scored on Jones’ double to right-center field.
The 24-year-old Arrieta (1-0) struck out Marcus Thames with the bases loaded in the previous half-inning to keep the game tied at 3-3.
The Orioles’ top pitching prospect allowed three runs and four hits in six innings with six strikeouts and four walks.
Will Ohman got the final out of the seventh and then threw a perfect eighth. Former starter David Hernandez worked around a one-out single in the ninth for his first career save.
Curtis Granderson, Nick Swisher and Derek Jeter each drove in a run for New York. The Yankees played most of the game without Alex Rodriguez, who left the first when he appeared to aggravate a groin injury.
Burnett suffered his first career loss in seven road starts against the Orioles. The right-hander allowed four runs and eight hits in 6 2/3 innings. He struck out five and walked one. Burnett had been 5-0 with a 3.89 ERA at Camden Yards.
