Derek Jeter had two hits and three RBIs and surpassed Babe Ruth to become the team’s all-time leader in hits as the New York Yankees hammered the Boston Red Sox 7-2 on Sunday night at Yankee Stadium.

The Yankees never trailed, pounding out 12 hits in the game - 11 off loser Josh Beckett. New York scored twice in the second inning by taking advantage of a Boston error and never looked back.

With two out, Brett Gardner hit a sharp grounder up the middle. Bill Hall snared the grounder but threw from his knees wide of first base, allowing Lance Berkman (three hits) to score from second base.

Gardner then stole second base and scored on Jeter’s single up the middle to make it 2-0.

Hall homered in the fifth inning to cut the deficit to 2-1, but the Yankees broke the game open in the bottom of the inning.

Mark Teixeira cracked a leadoff homer to make it 3-1 and New York added four more runs in the inning, highlighted by a two-run single by Jeter.

Dustin Moseley, making the start because A.J. Burnett was scratched with back spasms, picked up the win. Moseley (2-1) allowed six hits and two runs in six innings.

Beckett (3-2) took the loss. He has allowed 33 hits and 24 earned runs in 19 innings against New York this season.
