C.J. Wilson threw 7 2/3 innings of one-run ball, Michael Young belted a three-run home run and the Texas Rangers held on for a 7-3 victory over the Boston Red Sox on Sunday afternoon.

Wilson (11-5) pitched well in triple-digit heat, allowing one run on four hits with one walk and eight strikeouts. Wilson left the game after giving up a two-out single to Eric Patterson.

Rangers reliever Pedro Strop couldn’t keep the shutout intact, giving up an RBI double to Marco Scutaro and a two-run blast to Darnell McDonald that trimmed the Texas advantage to 5-3.

The Rangers added two insurance runs in the eighth on RBI singles from Andres Blanco and Julio Borbon.

Boston starter Daisuke Matsuzaka (8-4) took the loss, going 6 2/3 innings, allowing four runs on seven hits with two walks and eight strikeouts.

Texas took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on Andres Blanco’s sacrifice fly. The Rangers added four more runs with two outs in the seventh on an RBI bunt single by Julio Borbon and Young's three-run blast, his 19th of the season.
