Justin Duchscherer continued his comeback with six shutout innings and Kurt Suzuki homered for the second consecutive game as the Oakland Athletics blanked the visiting Cleveland Indians 10-0 on Friday night.
Duchscherer (2-0) allowed just five hits in his third consecutive outing of not allowing an earned run. In 19 innings over that span, the right-hander has given up just two unearned runs.
Duchscherer, a two-time All-Star, missed all of last season due to elbow surgery and a bout with depression.
Oakland turned five double plays, including one in each of the first four innings.
The Athletics took a 4-0 lead with a three-run sixth inning featuring Ryan Sweeney’s RBI single and Suzuki’s two-run homer. Suzuki’s homer, his fourth of the season, knocked Cleveland starter Jake Westbrook out of the game.
Oakland’s first run scored on Kevin Kouzmanoff’s run-scoring single in the fourth inning. Kouzmanoff drove in another run with a single during Oakland’s six-run eighth inning. Rajai Davis had the big blow with a three-run double.
Westbrook (0-2) allowed four runs and eight hits over five-plus innings.
