Jeanmar Gomez survived five innings and Shin-Soo Choo had three hits for the second straight night as the Cleveland Indians pounded 2009 Cy Young award winner Zack Greinke and the Kansas City Royals 7-1 on Saturday night.

Luis Valbuena added two hits and two runs for the Indians, who won their second straight after losing five in a row. Cleveland has won two of the first three in this series and leads the season series 10-9.

Greinke (9-14) entered 2-0 with a 3.15 ERA in three starts against Cleveland this season and fanned four batters over the first two innings, but Cleveland tagged him over the next two frames.

Choo capped both rallies, doubling home a run in the third for a 3-1 lead and delivering a run-scoring single in the fourth that provided a 7-1 bulge and ended Greinke’s night.

The Royals right-hander yielded a season-high 11 hits to go with the seven runs in just 3 2/3 innings – his second shortest outing of the season.

The 22-year-old Gomez (4-5) surrendered six hits and walked four more but allowed just a run over five innings. In his previous two starts, the right-hander was tagged for 15 runs and 17 hits and walked six in 8 2/3 frames.

The Royals had runners on second and third with one out in the first, but Gomez buckled down and struck out Wilson Betemit and Kila Ka’aihue. They had runners on second and third in the second, but Gomez got Gregor Blanco on a popout.

Bryan Pena singled home the lone run for Kansas City, which has lost 20 of its last 31.
