Mark Reynolds homered and Edwin Jackson pitched 7 2/3 strong innings against his former team to lead the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 6-5 victory over the Detroit Tigers on Saturday.
Miguel Montero added a solo blast and Gerardo Parra drove in a pair for the Diamondbacks, who snapped a franchise record 14-game road losing streak.
Reynolds, who sat out the series opener on Friday after going 0-for-11 with nine strikeouts in three games against Boston, looked refreshed against the Tigers, going 2-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored. His 16th blast of the season – a two-run shot off Rick Porcello (4-7) in the second – knotted the game at 2-2.
Jackson (4-6) was traded from Detroit to Arizona over the winter in a three-team deal that netted the Tigers Austin Jackson and Max Scherzer. In his first appearance against his former team, Jackson allowed nine hits and walked a pair but limited the damage to four runs – three earned – while striking out four.
The Diamondbacks took the lead for good with a four-run sixth inning, highlighted by Montero’s second homer of the season and Parra’s two-run triple.
Detroit threatened in the bottom of the ninth but Aaron Heilman struck out Miguel Cabrera with the tying run on second to end the game for his first save.
