Bobby Wilson hit his first career homer and Joel Pineiro tossed eight strong innings as the Los Angeles Angels avoided a sweep with a 5-1 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday.
Mike Napoli added a solo blast and Torii Hunter chipped in a sacrifice fly for the Angels, who had lost the first two games of the series by a combined score of 19-3.
Los Angeles jumped on left-hander Chris Narveson (5-4) in the first with Napoli’s homer and piled it on in the next frame as Juan Rivera and Kevin Fransden managed back-to-back singles with one out before Wilson came to the plate.
The 27-year-old Wilson was just 7-for-41 in his major league career but took Narveson out to deep left for his first career homer and first multi-RBI game.
Pineiro took care of the rest, yielding just one run on three hits and a walk while striking out five to post his third straight win and even his record at 6-6.
Carlos Gomez was responsible for Milwaukee’s lone run with a solo blast in the third - his fourth homer of the season.
