Oakland jumped out to a first-inning lead and made it stand the entire way en route to a X-X win over the Minnesota Twins Sunday night.

The Athletics got on the board right away, as Jack Cust and Kevin Kouzmanoff each had RBI singles to make it 2-0. They scored all five of their runs in the first three innings, as Ryan Sweeney doubled in a run in the second, Mark Ellis and Cliff Pennington both had RBI singles in the third.

The run support was enough for starter Gio Gonzalez (6-3) who continues his strong pitching in day games. He gave up two runs on six hits in seven innings, while striking out two. He now has a 4-0 record this season when pitching during daylight.

Michael Wuertz pitched a perfect ninth to get his first save of the season.

Minnesota starter Nick Blackburn (6-3) had a rough outing, getting touched up for 10 hits and five runs in just 2 2/3 innings.

The Twins scored a run in the second on an error by Kouzmanoff and another in the third via a Matt Tolbert sacrifice fly.

The Twins made it interesting in the eighth. Delmon Young hit a two-run home run to cut the lead to 5-4 and then Minnesota got a runner to second with two outs, but Brendan Harris struck out to end the threat.

Cust and Kouzmanoff both went 3-for-4 and Sweeney had two hits as well for Oakland.

Nick Punto had three hits for Minnesota.
