Trevor Cahill threw eight scoreless innings, Kurt Suzuki belted a solo home run and the Oakland Athletics held on for a 3-1 victory over the Texas Rangers on Wednesday night.

Cahill (10-4) allowed only two hits over eight innings with three walks and four strikeouts.

Rangers starter Colby Lewis (9-7) turned in an impressive outing of his own, going seven innings and allowing one run on five hits with two walks and eight strikeouts.

Lewis, who retired the first seven batters he faced, was cruising into the sixth inning. But after starting the frame with a strikeout, the left-hander made his lone mistake of the night, leaving a 2-2 pitch over the middle of the plate that Suzuki roped into the left-field seats.

Suzuki cushioned the A’s lead with an RBI single in the eighth and eventually scored on a Rangers’ fielding error.

Texas couldn’t get anything going offensively against Cahill, who didn’t allow a base runner to reach third. Craig Breslow got the final two outs in the ninth for the save.

The Rangers avoided the shutout with an RBI single from Vladimir Guerrero in the ninth. Nelson Cruz extended his hitting streak to a career-high 16 games with a single in the second inning.
