Nick Hundley homered and drove in two runs to help the San Diego Padres end a 10-game losing skid with a 4-2 victory over the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday night.
Hundley hit a solo homer to lead off the third inning and drove in another run on an infield single in the fourth as the Padres remained one game ahead of San Francisco in the National League West race.
Heath Bell struck out two in the ninth for his 38th save and first since August 19. Reliever Mike Adams (3-1) was credited with the victory after striking out three and not allowing a hit in 1 2/3 innings.
Hundley’s single gave San Diego a 3-1 lead before the Dodgers pulled within a run on Scott Podsednik’s seventh-inning homer.
The Padres got the run back in the bottom of the seventh when Aaron Cunningham doubled, moved to third on a grounder and scored on David Eckstein’s sacrifice fly.
Rafael Furcal went 3-for-5 for the Dodgers.
Dodgers starter Vicente Padilla (6-5) gave up three runs and five hits in four innings.
Tim Stauffer started for San Diego when Mat Latos was scratched with the flu. Stauffer gave up one run and four hits in four-plus innings.
