Garrett Jones doubled home Akinora Iwamura in the top of 14th inning to lead the Pittsburgh Pirates to a 6-5 win over the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday.
Andrew McCutchen finished with four hits, including a pair of homers, and Iwamura recorded three hits and two runs as the Pirates won their second straight in the series following a 17-3 setback in Monday’s opener.
The Pirates took a 5-4 lead in the top of the 10th inning on McCutchen’s second homer of the game, but an RBI single by Casey McGehee evened things back up in the bottom half.
Iwamura opened the 14th with an infield single, and following a pair of line outs, Jones doubled to deep right off Manny Parra (0-1) for the go-ahead run.
D.J. Carrasco (1-0) pitched three innings of relief to earn the win.
Milwaukee closer Trevor Hoffman blew a save for the second straight game, allowing a pinch-hit home run by Ryan Doumit in the top of the ninth that forced extras.
Carlos Gomez had a home run among a pair of hits and drove in two runs for the Brewers.
