Kosuke Fukudome was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 14th inning to give the Cleveland Indians a 3-2 victory over the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday.
Fukudome, who was 0 for 5 and had struck out four straight times, was hit by a 1-2 pitch from David Pauley, Detroit's sixth pitcher, as the Indians moved to within three games of the first-place Tigers in the American League Central.
The run was the first since the Tigers scored twice in the second. The Indians took a 2-0 lead in the first.
The game was delayed by rain for 2 hours, 3 minutes prior to the third inning.
Frank Herrmann (3-0), Cleveland's eighth pitcher, pitched two innings to earn the victory.
Pauley (5-5) walked Asdrubal Cabrera with one out, and after Travis Hafner's single to right center moved Cabrera to third, Carlos Santana was intentionally walked to load the bases.
Both starting pitchers - Detroit's Doug Fister and Cleveland's Justin Masterson - were limited to two innings because of the long delay.
Cabrera's RBI single and Santana's sacrifice fly gave the Indians a 2-0 lead, and the Tigers tied it on RBI groundouts by Don Kelly and Austin Jackson.
