David Wright belted two home runs as the New York Mets completed a sweep of the Arizona Diamondbacks with an 8-4 victory on Sunday afternoon.
New York (9-13) has won a season-high four straight contests as its offense totaled 18 runs in the three-game series with Arizona (8-12). The Mets' total matched the amount scored in their previous two series combined.
Wright was a huge factor and clearly rebounded from last week’s 0-for-24 streak. His first-inning shot off Armando Galarraga gave the Mets a 2-0 lead, and he went deep again in the fourth to go up 7-1. The third baseman has already matched his career high with five April home runs.
Galarraga (3-1) allowed six runs – two earned – on four hits and four walks in just three innings.
Ike Davis stayed hot for New York, too. Davis failed to hit a home run for the fourth straight game but he did go 2-for-3 with two walks and an RBI.
It was more than enough for Jonathon Niese (1-3), who allowed three runs – two earned – on six hits with two walks in seven innings. Stephen Drew had three hits but RBI machine Chris Young ended the series without a hit for Arizona, which has dropped four straight.
