Andre Ethier wasted little time starting another hit streak by clubbing a two-run homer to help the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers to a 4-1 victory over the New York Mets on Sunday afternoon.
A day after his 30-game hit streak came to an end, Ethier went deep to right against R.A. Dickey (1-4) to extend the Dodgers' lead.
Ronny Paulino's RBI single in the first inning had given the Mets an early edge, but the Dodgers scored in the third and fourth innings to pull in front, 2-1.
New York's Jose Reyes followed Daniel Murphy's pinch-hit single with a triple to center in the ninth against Vicente Padilla, bringing the tying run to the plate with one out. Padilla, however, retired Carlos Beltran and David Wright to earn his second save in place of injured closer Jonathan Broxton.
Clayton Kershaw (4-3) struck out eight while scattering six hits and three walks over 6 2/3 innings to pick up the win.
Dickey pitched seven innings in defeat, allowing 10 hits and three earned runs.
