Red Sox 11, Athletics 6:
David Ortiz homered twice and increased his American League-best batting average to .405 as host Boston won for the seventh time in its last eight games.

Mike Aviles hit a three-run homer and had four RBIs, and Darnell McDonald homered among his three hits to back another shaky performance by Clay Buchholz.

Buchholz (3-1), who yielded five runs in each of his first four starts, allowed six to the American League's least productive offense in 6 2/3 innings. His ERA is 8.69.

Former Red Sox Josh Reddick ended Buchholz's night with a three-run homer to cap a five-run seventh inning and make it 11-6. Reddick batted with the bases loaded and one out in the eighth and hit a grounder up the middle, which Dustin Pedroia snared and turned into a double play.

Oakland's Tommy Milone (3-2) allowed eight runs (seven earned) in 4 2/3 innings and saw his ERA climb from 2.00 to 3.67.

Boston's Marlon Byrd had two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored, and is 10-for-30 since being acquired from the Cubs.

The Red Sox scored four in the second to take a 4-1 lead. Ortiz led off the inning with a homer into the Oakland bullpen while Byrd and Aviles had RBI singles. After Ortiz walked to lead off the third, McDonald homered off a light tower above the Green Monster in left.

Boston put it away with five runs in the fifth. With one out, Ortiz's second solo homer bounced off Reddick's glove and into the Red Sox bullpen before Reddick tumbled over the wall. Byrd added an RBI double off reliever Jordan Norberto, and Aviles' three-run blast came two batters later.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Ortiz has 384 career homers and moved into a tie for 57th on the all-time list with Harold Baines. Ortiz is one behind former Red Sox great Dwight Evans. ... Boston third baseman Kevin Youkilis missed his second straight game with a stiff back. ... Third baseman Brandon Inge made his debut with Oakland and went 1-for-3 with a walk. He was released by Detroit on Thursday. ... Milone failed in his bid to become the first Oakland rookie to win four games in April. ... Oakland has scored 73 runs in 24 games -- only Pittsburgh (58) has scored fewer.
