Red Sox 4, Indians 1: Red-hot Dustin Pedroia delivered an RBI double among his two hits to extend his hitting streak to 13 games and Felix Doubront pitched six strong innings as Boston recorded its second straight home win for the first time in nearly a month.
Cody Ross homered and David Ortiz added an RBI double – his American League-leading 14th – as the Red Sox improved to 3-11 in their last 14 home games.
Doubront (3-1), who has won three of his last four starts, allowed one run on three hits and struck out five in six innings in his best start of the season.
Andrew Miller and Vicente Padilla each recorded a perfect inning of relief and Alfredo Aceves did the same in the ninth for his seventh save in nine chances, and second in two games.
Zach McAllister (1-1) was recalled from Triple-A Columbus by Cleveland on Saturday to replace scheduled starter Josh Tomlin, who was scratched with a sore wrist. McAllister allowed four runs on eight hits and struck out eight in seven innings.
Pedroia and Ortiz delivered back-to-back doubles in the third inning and Mike Aviles’ sacrifice fly in the fourth gave Boston a 3-0 lead.
Jason Kipnis’ run-scoring infield hit in the sixth made it 3-1 before Ross’ sixth homer in the bottom half – a towering shot to left field – cleared the Green Monster seats to restore Boston’s three-run lead.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Ortiz has one more double than teammate Ryan Sweeney. … Pedroia is 20-for-56 (.357) with 11 RBIs and 10 runs scored during his hitting streak. … McAllister won his first major league game Monday against the White Sox. … Boston improved to 5-2 in Doubront’s starts. … The Indians fell to 4-8 against left-handed starters. … The Red Sox last won back-to-back games at Fenway Park against Tampa Bay on April 14-15.
