Yankees 9, Tigers 4
: Curtis Granderson's grand slam capped a five-run second inning as visiting New York spoiled the debut of rookie Casey Crosby.

CC Sabathia (7-2) allowed three runs in seven innings and Alex Rodriguez hit a two-run homer for the Yankees, who have won seven of nine.

Crosby (0-1) ended up allowing six runs on four hits while walking four and striking out three for Detroit, which has dropped four of five.

The Tigers gave Crosby an early lead with a run in the first but the 23-year-old left-hander lost his command in the second, walking the bases loaded and then issuing a two-out walk to Derek Jeter to tie it at 1-1.

Granderson followed and got a 2-0 pitch over the plate, ripping a deep home run down the right-field line. It was the 17th homer of the season and third in the last four games for the former Tiger.

Detroit got two runs back in the third on Ramon Santiago’s solo homer and Prince Fielder’s RBI single, but Chris Stewart had an RBI single in the fourth and Andruw Jones doubled in a run in the eighth to keep New York clear.

Sabathia walked a pair and struck out five while yielding eight hits.

Rodriguez’s blast off Octavio Dotel in the ninth pushed it to 9-4.

Detroit loaded the bases in the ninth but Rafael Soriano came on and got Miguel Cabrera to ground into a double play for his seventh save.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Crosby was called up to replace Doug Fister, who was placed on the disabled list with a recurrence of the oblique injury that kept him out a month earlier this season … Detroit C Gerald Laird, who started Friday at designated hitter, left in the first inning with hamstring tightness … Rodriguez’s blast represented his first extra-base hit in six games … Tigers CF Quintin Berry came up a home run shy of the cycle … Yankees OF Brett Gardner (elbow) hit in the cage on Friday and is about a week away from rejoining the team.
