Phillies 4, Braves 2: Philadelphia broke through against ordinarily untouchable Atlanta reliever Jonny Venters and held on for a big road win to gain ground in the National League East.

The Phillies made up a game on Atlanta and division leader Washington, which lost 5-1 to Arizona.

Ty Wigginton put the Phillies ahead 2-0 with a two-run single in the top of the fourth, but Brian McCann's home run in the bottom of the inning and Juan Francisco's sacrifice fly in the sixth pulled the Braves even.

Philadelphia rallied in the eighth against Venters (2-1), who had not allowed a run in nine appearances this season before giving up two runs and four hits in 2/3 of an inning. John Mayberry scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch, and Hunter Pence drove in an insurance run with an RBI single.

Antonio Bastardo (1-1) struck out one in a perfect seventh for the win, and Jonathan Papelbon worked a perfect ninth for his ninth save. Phillies starter Cole Hamels allowed two runs on six hits and struck out six over six innings.

Braves starter Brandon Beachy posted his fourth straight quality start, allowing two runs on five hits over seven innings.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Wigginton has hit safely in 15 of the past 16 games. He had his 13-game hitting streak snapped against the Cubs Sunday. … Braves OF Jason Heyward missed a second consecutive game with a sore right oblique. … Hamels has 27 strikeouts in 27 innings over his past four starts.
