DIAMONDBACKS 5, GIANTS 4: Ryan Roberts’ two-run double snapped a tie in the sixth inning as host Arizona opened its defense of the National League West title with a win over San Francisco.

The Diamondbacks won their season opener for the sixth straight year and extended their winning streak over the Giants to six games.

San Francisco's Aubrey Huff led off the top of the sixth with a single and was driven home three batters later by Brandon Crawford to tie the game at 3-3. The Diamondbacks answered in the bottom of the inning after loading the bases for Roberts, who doubled to the left field wall.

Ian Kennedy (1-0) limited the damage from nine hits, giving up three runs through 6 2/3 innings for his fourth win in a row over San Francisco.

Arizona jumped out to a 3-0 lead with home run blasts to left-center field from both Chris Young and Paul Goldschmidt in the first inning.

The Giants lost on opening day for the second straight year and are just 2-5 in season openers since 2006.

Melky Cabrera had a stellar debut for the Giants, going 2-for-4 with a double and a two-run home run in the fifth inning.

San Francisco threatened in the ninth inning. Pablo Sandoval trimmed the lead to one with a two-out RBI double before Buster Posey ground out to end the ball game.

Tim Lincecum (0-1) struggled with his command, leaving the game with five runs on six hits and seven strikeouts - including five straight - after 5 1/3 innings.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Lincecum didn’t allow a home run in the first inning in 2011. … Posey extended a 14-game hit streak. … Goldschmidt has hit three of his nine career HRs off Lincecum.
