Angels 12, White Sox 9: Alberto Callaspo drove in five runs - three on a home run in the seventh - and host Los Angeles held on to end Chicago’s four-game winning streak.

Mark Trumbo doubled, homered and drove in two runs and J.B. Shuck had two hits and three RBIs for the Angels, who halted a three-game losing skid. Robert Coello (1-0) earned his first major-league victory by throwing 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief with three strikeouts and Ernesto Frieri pitched the ninth for his eighth save.

Chicago backup catcher Hector Gimenez had a career-high four hits, including a three-run homer in the eighth that cut the deficit to 10-9 after the Angels had taken a six-run lead into the inning. Alexei Ramirez and Paul Konerko added three hits apiece and Alex Rios had two hits and two RBIs for Chicago.

Chicago starter Hector Santiago couldn’t take advantage of a 4-0 lead and was lifted with one out in the fourth after surrendering Trumbo’s solo home run, followed by a single and three consecutive walks to force in another run. Back-to-back doubles by Albert Pujols and Trumbo to lead off the fifth off reliever Nate Jones (0-4) tied the score at 4, and Callaspo’s sacrifice fly brought home Trumbo for 5-4 lead.

Angels starter Joe Blanton, who came in having allowed a major league-leading 75 hits in 46 innings, gave up two hits in each of the first two innings but escaped the jams. He then loaded the bases with two outs in the fourth before Rios hit a one-hop double over the head of Callaspo at third to score two runs and Adam Dunn followed with a two-run single to make it 4-0.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Dunn did not come out on defense in the fifth inning because of back spasms. … The White Sox recalled LHP pitcher Donnie Veal from Triple-A Charlotte and sent RHP Deunte Heath back to the minor-league club. ... White Sox 2B Gordon Beckham is scheduled to begin a rehabilitation assignment Saturday night with Charlotte. He has been on the disabled list since April 10 following surgery to repair a fractured left hand.
