White Sox 5, Phillies 4 (1st, 11): Alexei Ramirez collected four hits – including a tiebreaking, two-out RBI double in the 11th inning – as visiting Chicago edged Philadelphia in the first game of a day-night doubleheader.
After the Phillies squandered opportunities to end the game in the ninth and 10th innings, Chicago took advantage of J.C. Ramirez (0-1) in the 11th on a two-out triple from Alejandro De Aza. Two pitches later, Alexei Ramirez ripped his fourth hit of the game into right-center to drive in the go-ahead run.
Ramirez added an insurance run one batter later on shortstop Jimmy Rollins’ fielding error to make a winner out of Ramon Troncoso (1-2), who tossed a scoreless 10th. Addison Reed labored in the 11th for his 24th save, surrendering a run on Humberto Quintero’s RBI single, but Ben Revere ended it after grounding into a 5-4-3 double play.
After Philadelphia jumped ahead 2-0 in the first, De Aza sent a scorching liner down the right-field line for a two-run double to even it up in the fifth. Conor Gillaspie gave Chicago a short-lived lead with a sixth-inning sacrifice fly before Darin Ruf knotted the game again in the seventh by hammering a changeup over the wall in straightaway center.
Following a rain delay of 41 minutes in the middle of the ninth, the Phillies put runners on second and third with none out following a balk by Nate Jones, but the right-hander escaped the jam. Troncoso faced runners on the corners one inning later, but struck out Delmon Young and induced a groundout by Kevin Frandsen.
