Athletics 7, Cardinals 5: Jed Lowrie erased a deficit with a two-run homer in the fourth inning and Josh Donaldson added a solo shot in the seventh as host Oakland captured the rubber match of the three-game interleague series.

Lowrie added an RBI single and also scored twice for the Athletics, who improved to 4-1 on their eight-game homestand. Yoenis Cespedes had two hits and an RBI while Brandon Moss added a run-scoring double.

Tommy Milone (7-7) notched the win despite surrendering five runs - four earned - and seven hits in six innings. Grant Balfour worked a perfect ninth for his 19th save in as many chances this season and 37th in a row dating to last year.

Jake Westbrook (4-3) lasted only four innings for St. Louis, allowing six runs and 10 hits. The right-hander, who walked two and struck out three, yielded a total of six hits in 13 frames over his previous two starts.

Carlos Beltran belted a two-run homer in the first inning and Allen Craig followed with a solo blast to give the Cardinals a 3-0 lead. Oakland scored twice in the second and each club added a pair of runs in the third before Lowrie launched an 0-1 pitch from Westbrook over the wall in right field to put the Athletics in front.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Beltran and 2B Matt Carpenter recorded three hits apiece, with the latter leading off the third inning with his seventh home run. ... Each team scored on an error in the third inning.
