Mariners 9, Padres 0: Aaron Harang threw his first complete game shutout since 2009 to lead host Seattle to a win in the first of four straight against interleague opponent San Diego.

Harang (2-5) recovered from a miserable outing at Anaheim on Tuesday by yielding just four hits and striking out a season-high eight. He gave up a double to leadoff batter Everth Cabrera before retiring 11 in a row and holding San Diego without another hit until the seventh.

Jason Bay homered to lead off the bottom of the first and Michael Morse added a three-run shot later in the frame as the Mariners jumped all over Padres starter Clayton Richard (0-5). Kendrys Morales finished with three hits, including a two-run single in the seventh that made it 7-0.

Kelly Shoppach also homered and Raul Ibanez chipped in an RBI double for Seattle, which has won two straight since ending an eight-game slide.

Richard, who was reinstated from the 15-day disabled list for this start after an intestinal virus put him on the shelf, gave up five runs in six innings. He is winless in nine starts dating to Sept. 20.

GAME NOTEBOOK: 2B Dustin Ackley, the second overall pick in the 2009 for Seattle and at one time a key building block for the franchise, was demoted to Triple-A Tacoma on Monday along with LHP Lucas Luetge. Ackley was hitting just .205 with one home run in 45 games. SS Nick Franklin and RHP Hector Noesi were called up. ... Harang's last shutout was April 12, 2009 against Pittsburgh. Monday was his 300th career start. ... LHP Tommy Layne was optioned to Triple-A Tucson to make room on the roster for Richard.
