Red Sox 5, Rays 1: David Ortiz had a pair of hits and drove in three runs as host Boston withstood a three-hour rain delay to win the opener of the scheduled day-night doubleheader.

Jacoby Ellsbury had three hits and scored three runs while Shane Victorino added a pair of hits and an RBI triple as the Red Sox beat Tampa Bay for the eighth time in 10 meetings this season.

Alfredo Aceves (4-1) won his third consecutive start, allowing one run on three hits before rain curtailed his outing. Junichi Tazawa, Andrew Miller, Koji Uehara and Craig Breslow followed Aceves with a scoreless inning apiece.

Ortiz had a two-run single in the third to break a 1-1 deadlock and added an RBI single in the fifth inning to extend the lead to 4-1. Boston tacked on an insurance run with two outs in the sixth on back-to-back triples by Ellsbury and Victorino.

Rays rookie Chris Archer (1-3), making his fourth major-league start, gave up four runs - three earned - in 4 2/3 innings before a delay of 2 hours and 59 minutes ended his day. Luke Scott had an RBI double in the second for Tampa Bay, which lost for the fifth time in six games and dropped six games back of the division-leading Red Sox in the American League East.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Rays RF Wil Myers, one of the top prospects in baseball, went 0-for-4 in his major-league debut while Matt Joyce had a double to extend his hitting streak to nine games. ... Red Sox 1B Mike Napoli returned to the lineup after missing the past two games because of dizziness and nausea and went 1-for-3. ... The consecutive triples by Ellsbury and Victorino were the first for Boston since Coco Crisp and Ellsbury had back-to-back three-baggers on Sept. 5, 2008.
