Danny Duffy allowed one run over six innings to win his third consecutive start, and Hunter Dozier had a two-run double as the Kansas City Royals snapped a four-game losing streak with a 5-1 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Sunday afternoon in Anaheim, Calif.
Nicky Lopez and Adalberto Mondesi both went 2-for-5 with a run scored for the Royals, who won for just the second time in their last eight games.
Duffy (3-1) allowed five hits and three walks while striking out five. Scott Barlow, Jake Diekman, who struck out the side in the eighth, and Ian Kennedy each pitched a scoreless inning of relief as Kansas City won only its sixth road game in 22 tries.
Mike Trout and Tommy La Stella both had two hits, and Kevan Smith reached base three times with two walks and an RBI double for Los Angeles.
Tyler Skaggs (4-4) took the loss for the Angels, allowing four runs (three earned) on six hits over 5 2/3 innings. He walked two and struck out seven.
Kansas City parlayed three hits, a walk and an error into a 3-0 lead in the third inning.
Whit Merrifield started the rally with a one-out walk and went to second on a single by Lopez. Mondesi followed with a bloop single to right that bounced past Kole Calhoun, allowing Merrfield to score, Lopez to take third and Mondesi to advance to second.
After Alex Gordon struck out, Dozier lined a double into the gap in right-center to drive in Lopez and Mondesi.
The Angels made it 3-1 in the fourth on Smith's double to drive in Calhoun, who had been hit by a pitch.
Kansas City extended its lead to 4-1 in the sixth when Gordon led off with a walk, advanced to second on a ground out and scored on a single by Chris Owings, his first RBI since April 20.
The Royals added an insurance run in the ninth off reliever Noe Ramirez, who hit Alex Gordon with the bases loaded, driving in Billy Hamilton, who had doubled.
