The matchup of the teams with the two best records in the American League lived up to expectations. Chicago led 7-2 after five innings before Tampa Bay chipped away and tied the game with two runs in the eighth.

Andrew Vaughn began the 10th inning as the automatic runner at second, moved to third on Jose Abreu's groundout and scored on Grandal's single to right field off Pete Fairbanks (1-1).

Ryan Burr (1-0) earned the victory for Chicago, which won for the sixth time in its past seven games and improved to 18 games over .500.

Chicago grabbed the lead with four runs in the fourth against Ryan Yarbrough. Abreu began the scoring with a two-run blast to left field for his first homer since May 29.

Zack Collins added a two-out, two-run single off Yarbrough, who gave up seven runs (five earned) on 10 hits in 6 1/3 innings.

The Rays cut the lead in half in the top of the fifth off Lucas Giolito. Yandy Diaz drew a leadoff walk and Joey Wendle doubled before Kevin Kiermaier brought them home with a double to right field.

Giolito allowed three runs on four hits and struck out seven over six innings.

The White Sox extended their lead to 7-2 in the bottom half. Tim Anderson hit a leadoff double and scored on a throwing error.

Vaughn, who had three hits and scored three runs, followed with a run-scoring double and Jake Lamb added a two-out RBI single.

The Rays began their comeback with Diaz's solo homer in the sixth. Mike Zunino brought them closer with a two-run blast in the seventh off Codi Heuer.

Tampa Bay pulled even in the eighth when Mike Brosseau scored from third on a fielder's choice and Manuel Margot delivered an RBI double off Evan Marshall.

Randy Arozarena extended his hitting streak to a career-high 11 games for the Rays, whose four-game winning streak came to an end on Tuesday.
