Christian Yelich homered twice, including a grand slam in the eighth inning, and drove in six runs as the Milwaukee Brewers evened a three-game series against the visiting Washington Nationals with a 9-6 victory on Saturday.

Milwaukee broke a 4-4 tie with five runs in the eighth inning. Javy Guerra (0-1) loaded the bases with nobody out before later hitting Kolten Wong with a pitch, allowing Luis Urias to score the go-ahead run.

Yelich followed with a nine-pitch at-bat and launched a 454-blast to right-center field, his third hit of the game.

Devin Williams (7-1) pitched a scoreless eighth inning for Milwaukee, which has won nine of its last 12 games.

Yadiel Hernandez homered for the Nationals, whose three-game winning streak came to an end.

Washington took an early lead with two runs in the first on Juan Soto's RBI single and Ryan Zimmerman's sacrifice fly against Eric Lauer, who allowed three runs on five hits over 4 1/3 innings. He issued three walks and struck out three.

The Brewers answered with one out in the bottom half when Yelich deposited a first-pitch fastball from Paolo Espino over the right field wall for his first homer since July 18.

Washington moved ahead 3-1 in the fifth on Alcides Escobar's RBI double before Milwaukee rallied with three runs in the bottom of the frame.

Yelich singled in a run against Gabe Klobosits, who replaced Espino with two on and one out. The Brewers then tied the game when Wong scored from third after Omar Narvaez popped out in front of the Brewers' dugout and nobody covered home plate.

Eduardo Escobar capped the rally with an RBI single, but the Nationals quickly pulled even on Hernandez's leadoff homer in the sixth off Brent Suter.

Espino allowed three runs on five hits over 4 1/3 innings. He walked one and struck out six, including four in a row at one point.

Wong and Narvaez had two hits apiece for the Brewers, who have won 15 of their last 21 meetings against Washington.

The Nationals scored two runs in the ninth before Josh Hader struck out pinch hitter Adrian Sanchez with the bases loaded to end the game.

Lane Thomas, Alcides Escobar, Soto and Tres Barrera each had two hits in the loss.
