AJ Pollock and Andrew Vaughn collected four hits apiece as the visiting Chicago White Sox pounded out 20 hits for the second time in three days en route to a 10-2 romp over the host Oakland Athletics on Saturday afternoon.
On their way to a third straight win in the series and fourth in a row overall, the White Sox (72-68) bombed Oakland starter Adrian Martinez (4-4) for 14 hits in 3 2/3 innings while building a 7-0 lead.
Chicago had only two extra-base hits in the game, one being a three-run homer off the bat of Elvis Andrus, his 13th, that capped a four-run second inning. Yasmani Grandal also drove in Pollock with a single.
Having already beaten the A's 14-2 on Thursday with a 21-hit assault, the White Sox created a second blowout with a three-run fourth. The inning included the team's only other extra-base hit -- a two-run double by Vaughn that made it 7-0 and ended Martinez's day.
The rookie was charged with seven runs on 14 hits in his 3 2/3 innings. He walked one and struck out two.
The 14 hits allowed matched the most in the majors since Alfredo Simon served up 15 in the Detroit Tigers' 9-3 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2015. Martinez tied Brandon McCarthy (2011) for the most allowed by an A's pitcher since Barry Zito gave up 15 against the Tampa Bay Rays in 2003.
The White Sox reached double digits in runs with two out in the seventh on a two-RBI single by Eloy Jimenez. They added one more run in the eighth on a Grandal sacrifice fly.
Right-hander Lance Lynn (6-5) benefitted from the massive run support, coasting through six innings in which he allowed just two runs (both unearned) and three hits. He walked one and struck out five.
Oakland (50-90) scored its runs on a Stephen Vogt sacrifice fly in the fourth and a Vogt grounder in the sixth.
Andrus finished with two hits, three RBIs and two runs for the White Sox, who needed a five-run rally in the ninth to pull out a 5-3 victory on Friday. Pollock scored three times and Yoan Moncada twice, while Jimenez joined Andrus with three RBIs.
Jimenez (three), Josh Harrison (three) and Jose Abreu (two) also enjoyed multiple-hit contests.
In losing for the ninth time in its last 10 games, Oakland totaled just three hits, two off the bat of Seth Brown. All three A's hits were singles.
