Freddie Freeman, Will Smith and Cody Bellinger hit home runs Wednesday as the Los Angeles Dodgers avoided a three-game sweep at the hands of the Colorado Rockies thanks to an 8-4 victory in Denver.

The Dodgers received two of their three home runs from the top three spots in the order and got five hits from the bottom three spots. No. 8 hitter Gavin Lux had two hits, while No. 9 hitter Eddy Alvarez drove in two runs.

Brendan Rodgers had a home run among his three hits, and he drove in three runs for the Rockies, who saw their four-game home winning streak against the Dodgers come to an end. Colorado leads the season series 4-2 with its first visit to Los Angeles coming up next week.

Dodgers starter Julio Urias (6-6) gave up three runs on six hits over 5 1/3 innings with one walk and five strikeouts.

Rockies starter German Marquez (4-6) yielded five runs on five hits over 3 1/3 innings with three walks and two strikeouts.

The Dodgers took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Freeman hit his ninth home run of the season.

Los Angeles boosted the lead to 4-0 in the second inning on a sacrifice fly from Alvarez and a two-run double from Trea Turner, who went 15-for-42 (.357) on the nine-game road trip that ended Wednesday.

The Dodgers pushed the edge to 5-0 in the fourth on an RBI single from Alvarez, but the Rockies answered with an RBI double from Rodgers in the bottom of the inning. Smith's two-run shot in the fifth, his 12th home run of the season, increased the Los Angeles lead to 7-1.

The Rockies stormed back in the sixth, getting RBI singles from C.J. Cron and Rodgers before loading the bases. Ryan McMahon then grounded into an inning-ending forceout against Dodgers right-hander Brusdar Graterol.

The teams traded home runs in the eighth, with Bellinger going deep for the Dodgers, his 10th, and Rodgers following in the bottom of the frame with his seventh, leaving Colorado's deficit at 8-4.
