In one of the bigger upsets of the young college hoops season, South Dakota State hung on for a 79-69 victory Sunday over Iowa at Carver-Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City. It was the first time since the 1929-30 season that South Dakota State (1-1) defeated the Hawkeyes.

South Dakota State and Iowa (0-1) were tied 50-50 with 10:55 to go in the second half. Iowa trailed by two, 67-65, with 4:38 to go in the game. But South Dakota State went on a 12-4 run and closed things out.

Three of the five starters for the Jackrabbits reached double digits, led by Nate Wolters' 25 points, nine assists and four steals. Guard Clint Sargent added 16 points, and forward Griffan Callahan had 10 points. Chad White came off the bench for nine points and six rebounds.

Guard Eric May had 20 points for Iowa, center Jarryd Cole added 17 points and eight rebounds, and forward Zach McCabe scored 11 points and grabbed seven rebounds.
