No. 2 Michigan State avoided the temptation to look ahead to its game with No. 1 Duke.

The Spartans tuned up for Wednesday’s showdown with the Blue Devils by beating Tennessee Tech 73-55 Sunday at the Breslin Center in East Lansing, Mich.

Tennessee Tech (0-3) fought hard with the Spartans in the first half. Zac Swansey's 3-pointer at the 4:55 mark drew the Golden Eagles within two at 18-16. The Spartans (5-1) scored seven unanswered points in the next minute and a half and closed out the half on a 16-4 run to go into intermission leading 34-20.

Michigan State was never threatened the rest of the way. The Spartans got hot in the second half, shooting 53.6 percent from the field.

Coach Tom Izzo has to be concerned about 17 Spartan turnovers, however.

Durrell Summers led the Spartans with 21 points on 8-for-15 shooting from the field, and Kalin Lucas added 15 points. Draymond Green came off the bench for 10 points, nine rebounds and six assists in 23 minutes.
