Nolan Smith went off for 33 points, seven rebounds and five assists as No. 1 Duke wrapped up its pre-conference schedule with a 85-64 victory over Alabama-Birmingham on Wednesday.
Kyle Singler added 15 points and seven boards, and Mason Plumlee scored 14 for the Blue Devils (14-0).
UAB scored the first basket of the game before Duke ripped off a 16-0 run behind 10 points from Smith. Singler’s jumper at the 13:37 mark of the first half gave the Blue Devils a 26-4 lead, and the rout was on.
Smith would pour in 20 points in the opening period, and Duke took a 51-36 edge into the locker room.
Jamarr Sanders scored 21 points, and Cameron Moore had 15 rebounds and 13 points for the Blazers (10-3).
The Blue Devils, whose have defeated Kansas State and Michigan State, have yet to be seriously challenged as they enter Atlantic Coast Conference play. Duke hosts Maryland in its ACC opener Sunday, and their first road game is Jan. 12 at Florida State.
Duke is the only ACC team ranked in the Top 25.
