A second-half run and balanced scoring lifted North Carolina State past George Mason, 78-65, on Friday in the semifinals of the Charleston Classic.
With the win, the Wolfpack (3-0) advance to the final where they will meet Georgetown on Sunday. The Hoyas earned a spot in the final with a 74-59 victory over Wofford earlier Friday.
North Carolina State was without starting forward Tracy Smith, who will also miss the championship game. The senior played only six minutes in North Carolina State’s 85-65 win over East Carolina on Thursday after suffering a knee injury.
The Wolfpack led 45-38 at the half but the Patriots (2-1) started the second half with a 14-7 run and tied the game, 52-52, on a jumper by Cam Long with 13:10 to play.
North Carolina State responded with a run of its own. C.J. Williams sparked a 12-0 surge with a dunk with just over 10 minutes to go. C.J. Leslie capped the spurt with two free throws to make it 69-69 with six and a half minutes remaining.
Ryan Harrow scored 11 of his 14 points in the first half for NC State and was one of five Wolfpack players in double figures. Richard Howell had 13, Leslie and Scott Wood added 12 and Javier Gonzalez finished with 10.
Long finished with 16 to lead the Patriots.
