Seniors Malcolm Delaney and Jeff Allen combined for 29 points as Virginia Tech manhandled Georgia Tech 59-43 Thursday in the first round of the ACC tournament in Greensboro, N.C.

The sixth-seeded Hokies (20-10) will face third-seeded Florida State (21-9) in Friday’s quarterfinals.

Virginia Tech, which had lost two straight following its rousing upset of Duke, jumped out to a 15-2 lead and was up 36-19 at the half. Delaney finished with 15 points and four assists, Allen with 14 points and 11 rebounds.

The Hokies still might need to beat the Seminoles to receive an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament, and avoid going to the NIT for a fourth straight year.

The Yellow Jackets (13-18) never solved Virginia Tech’s zone, shooting an abysmal 32.1 percent (17 of 53). Glen Rice Jr. led the Jackets with 14 points
