Draymond Green had 18 points and eight rebounds to help Michigan State to a 68-55 victory over visiting Wisconsin-Milwaukee in Spartan Invitational play on Wednesday.
Derrick Nix added 11 points as the Spartans (3-2) won their third consecutive contest after starting 0-2 for the first time in 35 years.
Kaylon Williams scored 14 points and James Haarsma added 13 for Wisconsin-Milwaukee (4-1)
Michigan State led 34-30 at halftime and began to pull away by scoring the first nine points of the second half. The advantage reached 16 points at 58-42 on Brandon Wood’s layup with 5:58 to play.
The Spartans didn’t shoot well – 43.8 percent from the field and 61.l percent from the line – but forced 19 turnovers.
The Panthers shot just 38.6 percent and were 5-of-25 from 3-point range.
Wisconsin-Milwaukee’s final lead was at 19-18 on Kyle Kelm’s dunk nine minutes into the game. The score was tied at 26 before Michigan State rolled off seven straight points and took a 33-26 lead on Nix’s layup with 1:42 remaining.
