Jorge Gutierrez put together a dazzling shooting display with a season-high 26 points as No. 23 California pulled away in the second half from pesky McNeese State for a 73-57 victory on Monday.

Gutierrez, a career 42.7 percent shooter, hit 11-of-15 (73 percent) of his shots while adding six rebounds and five assists for the host Golden Bears (6-1), who will face San Diego State in a highly anticipated battle of one-loss California-based schools Sunday.

Allen Crabbe added 20 points for Cal, which has held a 20-point lead in each of its six wins this season.

The Cowboys (3-3) faded late, but gave California all it wanted in the early going. The Golden Bears trailed by four late in the first half and led by only two at the break.

However, California opened the second half with a 27-11 run that essentially put the game away.

Dontae Cannon led McNeese State with 18 points.
