Evan Smotrycz tied a career-high with 20 points and Tim Hardaway Jr. added 16 as No. 19 Michigan held off Bradley 77-66 Thursday at Crisler Arena.
The Wolverines (10-2), playing their final non-conference game before Big Ten play begins next week against Penn State, got off to a sluggish start. They were tied at 33 at halftime and fell behind on two separate occasions early in the second half.
Clinging to a 50-49 lead with 12:24 left, Michigan went on a 15-5 run to put the game out of reach. Hardaway had six points during the stretch, and Jordan Morgan, who finished with 15 points, also added six.
The Braves (5-7) didn’t pull any closer than nine the rest of the way.
Smotrycz, a sophomore forward, has scored 16 or more in four straight games for the Wolverines, who improved to 7-0 at home. Trey Burke and Zack Novak finished with 12 and 11 points, respectively.
Five players finished in double figures for the Braves, including Walt Lemon, who had a team-high 16 points. Taylor Brown added 14 for Bradley, which has lost three straight and seven of its last nine overall.
This game was head coach Geno Ford’s 200th career game. John Beilein’s son, Patrick, is the director of basketball operations at Bradley.
