Quincy Acy scored a season-high 24 points and No. 7 Baylor dominated inside in a 95-54 rout of NAIA member Paul Quinn on Monday.
The host Bears (10-0) faced little resistance in the paint, where nine of their first 13 field goals were dunks. Acy led the way with 10-of-12 shooting on seven dunks.
Twelve players scored for Baylor, which won its 26th consecutive non-conference home game and is off to its best start since going 12-0 to begin the 2000-01 season.
Darrell Augustine scored 15 points to lead Paul Quinn (2-9), which has lost all of its games by double digits. Nafis Richardson entered the game averaging a team-high 21.6 points, but managed only nine points on 4-of-16 shooting.
Baylor led 40-25 at halftime behind 14 first-half points from Acy.
The Bears’ lead swelled to 20 points on Fred Ellis’ 3-pointer from the left corner that made it 57-37 with 13:27 remaining. That was part of a 29-13 run in the middle of the second half that turned a 50-35 lead into a 79-48 advantage on Anthony Jones’ back-to-back layups with 7:24 left.
Jones scored 10 points off the bench, and Brady Heslip finished with 12 points on 4-of-6 3-point shooting.
This was the final non-conference home game for the Bears, who will play neutral-site games against St. Mary’s, West Virginia and Mississippi State over the holiday break.
