Trey Burke had a game-high 18 points and Zack Novak added 13 points and five rebounds as No. 22 Michigan defeated No. 20 Indiana 68-56 on Wednesday.

Tim Hardaway Jr. added 13 points on 4-of-14 shooting for the Wolverines (17-6, 7-3 Big Ten), who defeated a ranked opponent for the fourth time and improved to 13-0 at home.

Indiana (17-6, 5-6) battled back from a 20-point first half deficit to pull within 52-50 with 3:21 left. But Michigan responded with a pair of 3-pointers - one by Hardaway Jr. and another by Stu Douglass - to extend the lead back to eight.

The Hoosiers couldn’t draw closer than six the rest of the way.

Jordan Hulls had a team-high 18 points for Indiana, which lost for the fifth time in seven games after a 15-1 start. Cody Zeller added 11 points and 12 rebounds but also committed four turnovers, including a pair of critical ones late.

Burke had 10 points in the first five minutes as Michigan took a 15-2 lead. From there, the Wolverines stretched it to 28-8 with 7:13 left in the first half.

But Indiana chipped away, cutting the deficit to 33-22 by halftime before giving itself a chance to win over the final minutes.

Michigan improved to 4-3 against Top 25 opponents and also moved into a tie for second in the Big Ten with Wisconsin.

The Wolverines lost the first meeting 73-71 at Assembly Hall on Jan. 5.
