Pittsburgh 82, Princeton 61: Lamar Patterson tallied a career-high 19 points, and Tray Woodall just missed a triple-double as the host Panthers cruised in a College Basketball Invitational quarterfinal.
Woodall, who scored 16 in an opening-round win over Wofford, had 15 points, 11 assists and eight rebounds for Pittsburgh (19-16).
The tournament continues Wednesday at campus sites, with Pitt visiting Butler in a rematch of last season's NCAA tournament thriller won by the Bulldogs.
Douglas Davis followed up a career-high 31 points against Evansville with 20 to pace the Tigers (20-12). Ian Hummer added 14 points for Princeton, which trailed by as many as 26 and didn't get to the foul line until 7:49 remained in the game.
The Panthers made eight 3-pointers in building a 49-25 halftime cushion, while Princeton hit seven 3s but shot just 2 for 9 inside the arc.
Back-to-back 3-pointers by Mack Darrow pulled the Tigers to within 22-19, but Pitt closed the first half on a 27-6 run over the next 8:46.
Nasir Robinson added 12 points and 10 rebounds for Pitt, which had a 37-26 advantage on the boards.
Game Notebook: Pitt senior Ashton Gibbs (1,741 points) scored 10 and surpassed Billy Knight for eighth place on the school's all-time scoring list. … The Panthers turned the ball over just once in the first half. … Pitt, 5-13 in the Big East, has now beaten two CBI opponents with 22 combined conference victories (Wofford 12, Princeton 10).
