Pittsburgh 57, Washington State 53: Talib Zanna delivered 14 points and eight rebounds off the bench to help the host Panthers even the College Basketball Invitational championship best-of-3 series with the Cougars at one game apiece.
Lamar Patterson chipped in 12 points, including 8 for 10 at the foul line, and Nasir Robinson added 10 points for Pittsburgh (21-17), which will host Game 3 on Friday night.
Reggie Moore scored 16 of his game-high 18 points for Washington State (19-17) in the second half, while Abe Lodwick and DaVonte Lacy added nine each.
Both teams sat out their leading scorers due to ankle injuries, WSU's Brock Motum and Pittsburgh's Ashton Gibbs. Motum missed Game 1, while Gibbs had just seven points in the Cougars' 67-66 victory Monday in Pullman.
The Panthers held a 42-32 cushion after Zanna's dunk with 10:16 to play before the Cougars responded with an 8-0 burst.
Pitt went without a field goal for just over seven minutes until Robinson's jumper put the Panthers ahead 49-45 with 3:10 remaining. A layup and two free throws by Moore tied it at 49, before Patterson hit a basket to give Pitt the lead for good.
