California 72, USC 64: Allen Crabbe scored 19 of his 27 points in the second half and the visiting Bears ended their two-game losing skid.

Crabbe, who has scored 20-plus points in four straight games, was 9-of-12 shooting and made all eight of his free-throw attempts. Tyrone Wallace added 10 points, including two key 3-pointers in the final five minutes.

Eric Wise led USC (6-9, 1-1 Pac-12) with 14 points and Byron Wesley had 13. Dewayne Dedmon had 10 points and 12 rebounds for the Trojans, who shot 8-of-18 from the foul line compared to 21-of-26 for California (9-5, 1-1).

The Trojans cut the lead to 63-58 on Wesley’s layup with 2:20 to play, but Wallace responded with a 3-pointer at the 1:20 mark to help the Bears draw clear.

Senior forward Robert Thurman grabbed a career-high eight boards for the Bears, who outrebounded USC by three. Justin Cobbs added 10 points, including 6-of-6 from the foul line.

GAME NOTEBOOK: California, which was 0-for-19 from 3-point range during its last two games, was 5-of-8 against USC. …The Trojans were seeking their second 2-0 start in conference play in the last 11 seasons. …Bears G Brandon Smith missed his third straight game with a concussion.
