Providence 71, No. 21 Notre Dame 54: Kadeem Batts scored 20 points and Vincent Council set the school record for career assists as the host Friars pounded the weary Fighting Irish.

Council had 11 assists, moving past Providence legend Ernie DiGregorio on the school's all-time list. The senior needs just three more to pass former Syracuse star Sherman Douglas atop the Big East record book.

Bryce Cotton scored 19 points and LaDontae Henton added 13 for the Friars (14-11, 6-7 Big East), who have won four straight Big East games for the first time since a six-game streak in 2004. Jack Cooley's 12 points led Notre Dame (20-6, 8-5), which played in overtime in three of its last four games, including the five-OT thriller against Louisville last Saturday.

The Friars never trailed and Batts scored four points during a 13-2 run spread across halftime that opened up a 41-28 lead with 18:01 left. Henton had his first points on a 3-pointer during that surge and later added back-to-back hoops to make it 48-33 with 15:08 to go.

The Irish trailed by as many as 24 points and never got closer than the final margin. The top 3-point shooting team in the league, Notre Dame shot a season-worst 1-for-14 from beyond the arc.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Irish had won nine meetings in a row. Providence's last win in the series came during that six-game Big East winning streak nine years ago. ... Notre Dame G Jerian Grant, the team's second-leading scorer, was held to six points. ... Batts and Cotton combined to go 18-for-30 from the floor.
