No. 17 Baylor 97, St. John’s 78: Brady Heslip recorded a career-high 29 points, including eight 3-pointers, as the Bears outlasted the Red Storm in the third-place game at the Charleston (S.C.) Classic.

Baylor (4-1) led 73-72 before scoring seven straight points – five by Pierre Jackson – to take control. Heslip made five of his 3-pointers in the second half and finished 8-of-12 beyond the arc after making just five over his first four games.

Cory Jefferson registered 20 points, Jackson had 19 and Isaiah Austin added 13 for the Bears. Jefferson had 14 rebounds and Austin 13 as Baylor dominated the Red Storm on the backboards, 39-19.

Phil Greene finished with a career-high 24 points, D’Angelo Harrison had 20 and JaKarr Sampson 18 for St. John’s (2-2).

Harrison was held out of the starting lineup and did not enter for the first seven minutes after being late to the team bus, but responded with four 3-pointers in four attempts in the first half. Heslip’s 3-pointer ended the opening 20 minutes to give Baylor a 45-42 lead.
