No. 14 Villanova 91, Providence 61: JayVaughn Pinkston led the way with 19 points and Dylan Ennis contributed 17 off the bench as the host Wildcats cruised to the Big East victory.

Darrun Hilliard made three 3-pointers en route to 15 points for Villanova (13-1, 2-0), which shot a blistering 14-of-26 from 3-point range. Ennis was 4-of-5 from behind the arc while Josh Hart went 3-of-5 and finished with 10 points in a reserve role.

Providence (10-5, 0-2) trailed by 24 points at halftime and shot just 35.3 percent for the game while committing 17 turnovers. Bryce Cotton led the Friars with 25 points while LaDontae Henton added 17.

Villanova pounded Providence right from the opening tip, as Pinkston's dunk and jumper in the first minute ignited the Wildcats to leads of 9-0, 17-3 and 27-8. The Wildcats led 50-26 at intermission behind 12 points from Hilliard and 7-of-13 shooting from 3-point distance, including two apiece by Hilliard, Hart and Ennis.

Providence had 12 turnovers and only seven field goals in the first half, as Cotton scored 16 points on 5-of-7 shooting and the rest of the team managed 10 points on 2-of-15 from the field. The Friars allowed a 16-6 run early in the second half and never recovered en route to their third straight defeat.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The 91 points marked the fourth time the Wildcats have scored at least 90 this season and set a season high for points allowed by Providence. ...
