Doug McDermott scored 17 of his 25 points in the second half as the visiting Bluejays took over sole possession of first place in the Big East.

Ethan Wragge knocked down six 3-pointers and finished with 22 points as Creighton (22-4, 12-2) completed a season sweep of the Golden Eagles (15-11, 7-6) and moved a half-game ahead of Villanova. Austin Chatman scored all 10 of his points after intermission to help the Bluejays fend off a comeback.

Reserves Todd Mayo and Deonte Burton paced Marquette with 13 and 11 points, respectively. Jamil Wilson and Derrick Wilson added 10 points apiece for the Golden Eagles, who were a dismal 20-for-36 at the free-throw line in having their three-game winning streak snapped.

McDermott opening the second half by scoring Creighton's first nine points before Will Artino added six in a row to build the lead to a dozen, but Marquette pulled within 64-59 before McDermott buried a deep 3-pointer with just under seven minutes to play. Chatman connected from long range with 5:28 left to extend the lead back to 72-61 and Wragge knocked down his fifth 3-pointer 1 1/2 minutes later to put it out of reach.

Wragge drilled four 3-pointers during an 18-5 run as Creighton opened a 10-point lead midway through the opening half. The Golden Eagles got as close as three points before heading to the locker room trailing 42-35 after a three-point play by Jamil Wilson.

GAME NOTEBOOK: McDermott moved past Tyler Hansbrough (2,872) and Elvin Hayes (2,884) for sole possession of 11th place on the NCAA career scoring list with 2,888 points. ... Marquette leading scorer Davante Gardner was limited to eight points and two rebounds. ... Wragge and Jahenns Manigat combined to hit seven first-half 3-pointers and help Creighton shoot 62.5 percent overall in the opening 20 minutes.
