Sophomore guard Jordan McLaughlin had 20 points and six assists to lead USC to a 96-61 victory over visiting Cal State Northridge on Monday night at the Galen Center in Los Angeles.
Junior guard Katin Reinhardt came off the bench to post 17 points and six rebounds for USC (4-0). Freshman forward Bennie Boatwright scored 12 points and junior forward Nikola Jovanovic recorded a double-double, finishing with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Junior guard Julian Jacobs had six points, 11 rebounds and eight assists.
Freshman guard Jason Richardson scored 18 points to lead Cal State Northridge (2-3). Senior forward Olalekan Ajayi had 12 points and 14 rebounds.
Cal State Northridge led 5-4 early in the opening period, but USC came on strong, mounting a 13-3 run to take control. They took a 29-12 lead on a jumper by Reinhardt midway through the half and staged a 15-2 run to go up 44-18.
The Trojans led 46-26 at the break and were never threatened in the second half. They led by as many as 35 points after Reinhardt made a 3-pointer with 11:45 remaining and cruised to the finish.
The Trojans shot 48.7 percent from the field and made 13 of 31 from 3-point range. The Matadors shot 34.4 percent and made 1 of 13 from beyond the arc.
