Forward Jameel McKay had 17 points and eight rebounds and No. 4 Iowa State used a strong shooting effort to beat Arkansas-Pine Bluff 78-64 on Sunday at Ames, Iowa.
Guard Matt Thomas also scored 17 points for the Cyclones (9-0). Guard Monte Morris added 12 points and 11 assists a Iowa State made 12 3-point shots and finished with a 48.1 shooting percentage.
Arkansas-Pine Bluff didn't go away until late in the second half behind its own hot shooting. The Golden Lions (2-8) shot 45.8 percent and had guards JoVaughn Love and Ghiavonni Robinson lead the team with 13 points each.
The Cyclones played without starting guard Naz Long because of soreness in his hips. Long underwent off-season surgery on both hips. How long Long will be out is to be determined, he said before the game. He added that the Cyclones are unsure if this is the only game he'll miss.
Long started the first eight games, averaging 12.0 points and 2.9 rebounds.
