Guard Anthony Barber's step-back 3-point basket from the left wing at the buzzer gave North Carolina State a 76-73 victory against visiting High Point on Wednesday night at PNC Arena in Raleigh, N.C.
Barber finished with 26 points as the Wolfpack pulled out a game that was tight across the final 10 minutes.
N.C. State forward Cody Martin stole an inbounds pass and was fouled going to the basket with 16 seconds left. Martin was injured on the play, so High Point chose to have forward BeeJay Anya attempt the free throws. Anya missed both attempts, but guard Maverick Rowan rebounded for the Wolfpack to help set up the final shot.
High Point had a chance to hold for the last shot before Martin's steal.
Rowan's 19 points and forward Abdul-Malik Abu's 13 points were critical for N.C. State (7-3).
Guard Anthony Lindauer scored 10 of High Point's first 22 points and finished with 18 points.
Forward John Brown had 17 points and guard Adam Weary had 15 points for the Panthers (8-3), who were off to their best 10-game start in their Division I era. Forward Lorenzo Cugini finished with 12 points, including a go-ahead 3-pointer with 1:48 to play.
N.C. State led 36-31 at halftime, with Barber supplying 13 points by that juncture. High Point grabbed a lead midway through the second half.
