BOSTON -- Guard Sheldon McClellan scored 19 points, and No. 15 Miami ended a two-game losing streak with a 67-53 Atlantic Coast Conference victory over upset-minded Boston College on Wednesday night.

McClellan, averaging 17.5 points per game over the previous four, hit a jumper with 5:48 left to help stall a rally by the Eagles, who lost their fifth in a row, all in the conference.

Boston College (7-11, 0-5 ACC) cut a nine-point deficit to three with six straight points, the last four by guard Eli Carter.

The Hurricanes (14-3, 3-2) responded, and McClellan hit two free throws to complete an 8-2 run that restored the lead to nine. The Carter basket with 7:01 left was the Eagles' final field goal.

Miami, which lost to No. 11 Virginia and Clemson to drop from a high spot of No. 8 in the AP poll, got 12 points from point guard Angel Rodriguez, all in the second half. Guard Ja'Quan Newton also scored 12, while center Tonye Jekiri matched a career high with a season-high 17 rebounds, his 11th double-digit rebound game of the season.

Eagles guard Jerome Robinson led all scorers with 20 points, hitting nine of 14 shots from the floor, while Carter had 12 points, eight assists and five rebounds. However, the graduate senior was a dismal 4-for-18 from the floor, 1-for-7 from 3-point range -- missing all six behind-the-arc shots after opening the game with a trey.

The teams combined to go 5-for-24 from 3-point range, with McClellan hitting Miami's only two treys.

Miami established early control, using Boston College turnovers to build a 20-14 lead with 8:15 left in the first half. But the Hurricanes scored only nine points in the remainder of the half.

Boston College went on a 10-2 run to take a three-point lead, but Miami finished the half with a sloppy 8-4 run to take a one-point halftime lead.

The Eagles were guilty of 12 turnovers in the opening half but shot 52 percent from the floor to stay with the bigger Hurricanes.

NOTES: With a weekend snowstorm anticipated in the Boston area, last year's Miami visit to Boston College came to mind. The Feb. 15, 2015, game was postponed to the next day -- a Monday afternoon -- because of a blizzard, and the Hurricanes defeated the Eagles in double overtime. ... Boston College held a touching halftime tribute to honor wounded veteran Cedric King, who appeared on the court to a long standing ovation. ... Boston College G Eli Carter came into the game third in the ACC in scoring (17.6) and Miami G Sheldon McClellan was 16th (16.1). Miami C Tonye Jekiri was fifth in the league in rebounding (9.4) and Boston College C Dennis Clifford was 14th (6.9). ... Miami is home against Wake Forest on Saturday, and Boston College plays at Notre Dame the same day.
